We left as a group. We flew as a group. And we made it to Alabama as a group, sort of. With only a few minor slip-ups (flight delays, fainting spells, and sprinting to catch a flight after the lay-over), we were welcomed to Mobile by radiant sunshine and a warm breeze.
St. Paul's Lutheran Church is our host site and the accommodations are above adequate. We have double layered air-mattresses, lots of food, and a private pond in the back (though it is not private to us). The hosts are also nice and two were born in Minnesota.
In our first small group session, we discussed the importance of listening and being conscious of different ideological and cultural backgrounds. For me, I am reminded of the last two years, new places and new opportunities to invest and engage others through presence and dialog.
Our group is strong and we are strong in solidarity--listen and serve!
